Well, we went for the blueberries and ended up joyriding on a tractor. That's life in the country. I'm smiling, but I'm also terribly afraid that I'm going to run into the house and kill my dad.

So, I've hosted a book fair all week in the library (sorry, media center). This one girl was looking at a book, and you know, the stuff has prices for different countries listed on the back. So, she's looking at the back and asks, "why does it cost more in Kansas?" Is there really anything else I can say?

A dog freaks out and the drums break

So, we started playing a Rock Band song this evening. As it was beginning, Lucy (for those that don't know, Lucy is our 16-year-old, nearly blind and deaf, arthritic dachshund) gets up from under blanket and looks around. Then she starts howling. Then she starts barking, alot. Then she starts running around the living room, then she moves to the den to run in circles around the dining table. She hasn't moved that fast in a couple of years. We still don't know what set her off since she started off asleep.

Now (not as a result) the red pad on our drum set no longer works. So the Amazon gift certificate I'd been saving for some new kitchen supplies goes to a new drum set. Oh well, it was from earned credit cards points anyway.

The evening is nearly complete now with Lee thrusting his groin toward the microphone when singing "More Than a Feeling."

So, when you visit a diner you expect to eat a greasy burger and some french fries, and maybe enjoy a malted milkshake. At least that's the thoughts that run through my head as characteristic of a diner. However, valet parking is not one of them. Especially since valet parking at this particular place saves you all of 10 feet of walking to the door.

Home Improvement Shenanigans

We go by the lovely Home Despot this evening to purchase a few things for the house. Some new rugs for the kitchen, a new faucet for the sink (I hate those low faucets...need height to rinse properly) and a new faucet for the hall bathroom (the old one is nasty and I can no longer polish that turd).

WELL, we discover upon checkout that the kitchen faucet was a return. A poorly packed and taped return with a FUCKING PHONEBOOK AND CATALOG in there instead of a faucet. At least we discovered it before leaving because I would have been PISSED if we found out after getting home. Someone in management will be very unhappy this evening.

Well, we have some Christmas photos already. Lee took some of our tree and Lucy, and we took pictures at the family get-togethers in Gadsden at my cousin Belinda's house. Twas a crazy ride to her house: her driveway is VERY steep and rutted out because of all the rain. Her husband had to pick us up at the bottom of the hill because my car would not make it. Neither did Buffy's...she got it stuck half-way up.

I have three Wii games that we never play:

Super Mario Galaxy
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

All cases and paperwork are intact and the discs are in excellent condition, hardly played. These games run around $50 each in the store. I'm asking $25 each. Anyone interested? I am willing to ship.

Last week we made the trek up to the Big D for some Janice and Karlene time, as well as some exploring since we've never been there before.

Thursday, we drove. And drove and drove. And then drove some more. We went up through Indiana because of higher speed limits, but there were troopers EVERYWHERE. Also, everyone in Indiana loves driving slowly in the left lane while talking on their cellphones. Bitches.

Anyways, we make it to Detroit, get followed by a cop to our hotel and settle in.

Friday, Janice and Karlene found us at our hotel and we then went to Dearborn to visit The Henry Ford (really neat museum with cars and other great historical artifacts such as the Rosa Parks arrest bus) and watch "The Dark Knight" on IMAX. Awesome! We then traversed to Greektown for wonderful pizza and pastries. And we got to ride Da People Mover before they shut it down for repairs.

Saturday was all day Flint. Flint has the most awesome farmers market with fresh, yummy veggies, meat, pastries, cheeses, wines, and a yummy lunch. I wish we had that in town. We also got to see "Chevy in the Hole," an abandoned factory area where nothing can be built because of hazardous waste. We also met Norm the therapy dog, Lady the ancient beagle, and Buster, the rescue dog scared of men (poor Lee was growled as mostly by him). For dinner we found a lovely little Lebanese restaurant in Troy. Never had that style of food before. The lamb and hummus was excellent, as was the creamy lentil soup appetizer. Would definitely eat there again.

Sunday we left the country and visited Windsor, Ontario. Border guards were not too bad (Canada, very friendly, U.S., less so). They were all very suspicious of our Alabama plates and wanted to know why we were there. The Canada guy was happy we had passports. Apparently he saw the AL tag and dreaded telling us we didn't have the proper documents. We walked around a lovely park on the river, ate a yummy lunch as a cute little coffee shop, and then headed back to the U.S. for a trip through the various Grosse Points and then dinner at Janice's house. There we had good food, good wine, and got beaten by Mama Clein and sister Laura at Scrabble. Lee had to learn humility (his Scrabble skilz are nothing to sneeze at). Then came much political discussion with Papa Clein. Afterwards we bade goodbye to Karlene and Janice and headed back to the hotel.

Monday was the long drive home. We decided to try driving through Ohio, despite the lower speed limits. No one tried to pull us over and we got to see Big Butter Jesus. It was a pretty quiet trip back and we were very tired at the end. We dropped off our stuff, retrieved our doggies, and plopped on the couch. We had a great time and I hope we can make it up there again (probably flying next time) and see our peeps.
